Update on the show! (ATTN: Artists wanted!)

"The Gay-ming Completionist" won't be updated on itunes or blip.tv anymore due to a change in the Blip.tv ToS which disallows video series such as mine.

Blip is the video host for the iTunes upload, and I was told that I can't upload anymore videos and that my show has been marked for deletion. The deletion will be finalized in the beginning of November.

What this means?:

All video posts you see on here will go to blank pages.
There are far too many for me to update, so instead all videos from the start of season 4 and onwards will be embedded ones from my youtube page.

It rather sucks a lot since most of the 100% viewers were through blip & itunes, but hopefully those of you that follow me on either of those outlets will click the link below and subscribe to me on there.

Assuming, of course, that a grown ass man cursing at video games with bumping dance music doesn't scare you away.

I'm also searching for artists who have a knack of drawing highly detailed club scenes for this season finale. If you think that's you send me an email: imagoth2004@yahoo.com with the title of the email being "Artists wanted!" with a full pricing list and sample artworks, and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

Also, I will be uploading a bunch of stuff very soon!

Let's Play: Season 1 Finale

AUDIO ONLY:

The reason I hate xbox live.

Now most people would complain about the kids on there, or the gaming community in general. Maybe even talk about a bad experience in a game. Like say they were killed off by someone a far lower level than them, and go on to accuse that person of cheating, but no I've never had any grievances like that. The only reason why I dislike xbox live is because of the billing system.

I'm the type of person that only subscribes to live when there is a deal going on. Usually the 1 month $1 deals. Mainly because I'm not much of an online gamer. I use it mainly for video watching and such. The only time I ever play games online would be on PC only. *insert master race statement here* So I clearly don't use the system that often only occassionaly for netflix, or crackle.

Back in the day when you wanted to turn off auto renewal you'd do that through the phone only. I wasn't aware that every time you make a new subscription the option automatically turns on. However, with the newer changes you can easily do that online.

But god help you if you forget about that because the only email confirmation you get is one on the day of the renewal. Okay how do you cancel the subscription? Well you can't do that online yet, so you have to call in.

Guess what I spent my day doing today? That's right, I was calling in. So after explaining to the person on the phone that I just received the email, and that I already turned off the auto-renewal that I'd like to get this current subscription cancelled. I was met with a "I'm sorry, all that we're allowed to do is turn off the automatic renewal and nothing else." Oh the fuck reallly? Let me kindly divert your attention to this.

Of course when I bring up this fact I was put on hold for 10 minutes while they figure out what to do only to get back to me and continue saying "Sorry but we can't do that." Well someone might want to fix that on the website. "I'll have someone look into it."

You're fucking kidding me right?

So I hang up on them, and this time go back to the online support section and request a call from one of them. Which presents you with a text input box to explain what your issue is and what you want to do. So when I received the call the person obviously didn't bother reading what I wrote, because I had to explain it again. This is why I also hate text inputs before customer service reps contact you. You could write the most hateful thing in the world. You could probably be in the middle of being murdered, and the people won't read your pleas for help.

At least when you use the call me section of the support they actually do their job as described. It took less than 5 minutes for the chick on the line with me to cancel the subscription, AND get my money back... It's a god damn miracle.

What's sad is that I can't even blame this on a call center that was outsourced to some Indians (dot kind, not the woo-woo), and blame it on poor English usage. This was purely an issue with people not knowing how to do their job.

Of course todays incident isn't the only thing that makes me dislike them. It has always been the support staff, and how they handle issues. I really won't bother going into those details because just thinking about them now still causes my blood to boil and make me instinctively reach for a gun and/or knife.

Enough of that stuff though. There will be an update soon with music and shit.

For those of you who follow the music part.

You may have noticed that I recently posted on Twitter, Facebook, and various other sites that I'm taking down my 3 hour Trance & Hard set.

The main reason behind this is because the maximum hosting length is 3 hours for free members. I have used it all up obviously. The other reason is because I have about a 55 minute long set recorded and ready to go for the Season 1 Finale which still has a few things I need to do to it

Mainly get the video ready and the voice-overs finished. I still need to come up with a title card for the video too. there is basically 1 to 2 days left available to download the current one on my soundcloud.

So be sure you grab it while you can!

My direction

I've been trying to come up with something to do with my Blip account.

What I know I want to do:

Post video game Let's Plays, along with my raging bits.
Post about how I felt about the game after here on this blog.

Seems very bland right?

What I would like to do also:

At the end of each game make a video of an hour long DJ set to end the "Season" on?

Does that sound good?

But it still seems bland to me... I would like some suggestions/ideas on what to do from here. I'm open to anything. What would you like to see from the show in each season?

Blood, Sweat & Tears: New, Exclusive & Unmixed

I thought I should post this awesome piece of hardcore up here.

This release is only limited to 400 copies, physical only, no reprints, etc.
So if you're a big fan of hardcore like I am be sure to check out their website.

If you're not sure about purchasing it then not to worry. You can pre-listen to the tracks near the bottom on the link above.

All 3 CDs will be full of DJ friendly tracks (meaning full length), and it's almost guaranteed that these tracks are new and will not see the light of day elsewhere.

I myself already pre-ordered my copy (it comes to about 28 USD outside of the UK) and now I can't wait until the end of this month to receive it in the post.

I might just have to do a mix of some of the tracks for my JTV stream only. Who knows until the time comes.

I personally am looking forward to the tracks from Fracus, DJ Shimamura, S3RL, Haze, and Gammer... Well technically I'm looking forward to all of them, but those 5 are the ones that got me into the hard scene.

Dirty Androids EP Remember/Wind Sails

DA - "Remember / Wind Sails"

If my last post about DA got you interested in their stuff be sure to check out the EP in the link above. It's guaranteed to be worth more than what they are planning for.

Sunday, May 6, 2012

Yeah it's been a while

I know this. I will be slowly getting back into streaming LP's...

While on the subject of Let's Plays I will be redoing the Tomb Raider series. Mainly because I swear like crazy, and get lost a LOT. I will try my best to self censor, but damn is it hard. However, this time I won't be streaming them. Instead I will be recording them on my own time and posting them up. I'll leave the old ones up until I get each game finished.

In the mean time last night I did a live DJ stream on my JTV channel. As you know how I am with showing my face on the interwebs I deleted the video immediately after the set finished. However, if you still want to listen to this self-proclaimed amazing set check it out on http://soundcloud.com/imagoth2004/dj-imagoth-tra-core-set-5-5-12

Music review: Dirty Androids: DA Old Tape

IT'S ABOUT TIME!
I've honestly been waiting for an official CD release of something by this extremely sexy man and/or woman.
I first fell in love with this artist when I first heard Last Burning on Beatmania IIDX 17th Sirius and soon fell in love with this artists Electro style. (I know of a few people who heard me gush more when I bought the 17th Sirius OST because an extended version of that song was on there).

Brief History:

Dirty Androids is of unknown sex hence the name... Android. However, being an android seems to be perfect for them to pull off these kinds of “Dirty” sounds.

I'm not sure exactly how they started out, but it would be safe to assume through Myspace and eventually Soundcloud before being pulled into doing a few tracks for Konami's Beatmania series. I've included the link for "Last Burning", "Golden Palms", "Empire State Glory", and "New Castle Legions". The latter really reminding me of when I used to play Beatmania on Gameboy, but really you're not reading this review for that stuff... You want to know about the old/new singles CD Androids released right?

Well, I can tell you, as expected, it's pretty damn good. The songs were produced before 2008 and uploaded to Myspace only. Eventually the file restrictions meant that Android had to take them off to add in new tracks. Now available through his blog. This release contains four of his old songs entitled: "Triple Accelerator", "Lost City", the self titled "Dirty Androids", and the bonus track "Elevation Above".

Dirty Androids:

The intro for the track does wonders as the intro for the album, and when the lead synth kicks in you know that you're in store for a good time. The samplings are great, and the overall dirty sound as expected from DA is wonderful for this track. The chorus is just as great, The Breakdown is nice and smooth, before getting into the synth lead verse which is fantastic. It really is a defining track of who DA is.

Triple Accelerator:

This song has more of a kick when it comes to the bass which is perfect with the synth choice that comes in at the chorus. The crescendo in this song really brings a 'hands in the air' moment with little help of a delay filter in my opinion. I can totally see myself using this in a party/club scene. The only downfall is that this one does feel a bit repetitive, but not to the point of giving up on it. After all, the song is kinda short (even if it is the longest on the album).

Lost City:

Really turns from the normal electro/rock feel of his other tracks. This one is more laid back, but still dancelike. The chorus is very good, and the subtle bits in the verse are really really perfect for this track. The breakdown in this song is a very beautiful (still synthy) escape from the song, almost faux-instrumental without the instruments. If I could get a full length of that breakdown alone I'd be ecstatic. The outro ends abruptly in my opinion since it cuts half of the chorus, but it's so unexpected that it's really good.

Elevation Above:

DnB + Minimal... So damn beautiful, and a great track to end the album on. The intro is very instrumental before the DnB kicks in with a light bit of guitar in the background only to have it well rounded with a piano accompaniment. As quoted by a few fellow DJs who dabble in DnB told me quite a few times, "One thing that every Drum n' Bass track needs is piano. It is honestly the most beautiful combination." (EX. Beautiful Angel on Beatmania IIDX 15th DJ Troopers) And I couldn't agree more. Especially with the breakdown in this track when only the piano plays with a guitar.... *Sudden eargasm onslaught* ...It feels so damn good. This really feels like a great summer track IMHO.

TL;DR:

All in all, this is by far the BEST buy I made this month next to Rebound. (if you watch my stream then you know the track I'm talking about). I apologize if you think my review is short, but honestly if I had it my way I'd talk about this CD quite a while then it would never be posted, so I tried to stick to a few lines for each song.

Final verdict:

I'd have to give this CD a 9.7 out of 10.

The .1 of the difference is having to wait so long for a release... the other .2 is for the repetitiveness of the second song. It's not a bad thing as I stated before, but I just have a thing against repetitiveness (which is weird since I don't mind house music and other styles that are really repetitive).

Since "Deee-Lite" is on here, and she really was a one hit wonder I'm gonna say that it's gonna be "Groove Is In The Heart". Same can be said for Snow - "Informer", and M|A|R|R|S "Pump Up the Volume"
Now this is where it might get a bit interesting Salt N' Pepa appears, and since their song "Push It" has been released with instrumental versions (Not to mention the fact that you can get the song open source) it wouldn't be surprising that this song would appear. (There's already a bunch of blends of that song’s instrumentals with other song vocals.)
If you're a fan of Tim & Eric's Awesome Show. Great Job! Then you know that Eric Wareheim is into producing music videos for artists. One of which was the tripped out "Pon De Floor" by Major Lazer. What not many people know is that Major Lazer is another artist name for Diplo. The ML version of the song was the same as the one released under his Diplo name, but with vocals added in. So chances of these songs instrumental and vocals appearing is pretty high. However, on another note Diplo and Switch did stuff for M.I.A. and Tiesto, So the chances of the newer song by Tiesto "C'Mon" are moderate. He also did a remix of M.I.A.'s song "Birdflu". (I have learned that he did a remix of a Daft Punk song too so with the amount of songs he has possible there might be a DJ Set by him.)
The only Afrika Bambaataa song that he uses the Soulsonic Force name is the Swordfish theme song "Planet Rock".
Armand Van Helden is mainly known for his hits "My My My" and "Hear My Name" However, his most recent single was with Dizzee Rascal in "Bonkers".
Basement Jaxx and Sam Sparro share the song "Feelings Gone", and with Dizzee Rascal in "Lucky Star", but with how popular "Where's Your Head At?" is it wouldn't surprise me if it shows up.
B.o.B. only has one CD that came out this year, and one song shows up with Bruno Mars in "Nothin' on You" which was a single. (Yes there is an instrumental most likely will have two songs that it's in using the vocals and instrumentals)
Calvin Harris' most recent 2010 remix single was with Kelis, so chances of "4th of July (Fireworks)" is pretty high.
I could honestly go on and on forever, but if I'm right so far then hopefully this songlist will actually be more electronic than hip-hop.
The one I'm really looking forward to is the David Guetta song possibilities. He normally uses the vocals of Chris Willis so there most likely will be a set of nothing but his stuff, but one of the best ones in my opinion would be his "mash-up" single release of Tocadisco's remix of The Egg's single "Walking Away" with the vocals of Chris Willis from David Guetta's 2002 single "Love Don't Let Me Go". So maybe there will be a scratch remix that will be playable for this song?

I'm honestly looking forward to this one more than I did with the first game. I just hope it is more electronic based...

Wii: Armin Van Buuren: IN THE MIX

I’ve been spinning Trance and other Electronic music since 2007-ish, and I am just like any other Trance music enthusiast when I say Armin Van Buuren is one of the best of all time. I mean he’s hardworking (with his weekly radio show since 2001, and countless singles and albums), and also as a performing DJ. However, when I heard about a game that’s being endorsed by and collaborated with Armin himself even I was a bit skeptical. It also doesn’t help that it’s coming from a company I never heard of.
Foreign Media Games announced the production of “In The Mix: Featuring Armin van Buuren” back in 2009, and I recently found a video of the career mode on youtube. You can find here!
Gameplay-wise I don’t see this becoming popular with all of you Guitar Hero/Rock Band fanboys (again… lrn ur roots), but if you’re interested in how DJing is done you might wanna check it out. (Not like that DJ Hero shit, or Beatmania's term for “DJing”) Even though the producer of the game has said that they didn’t want to compete with DJ Hero or anything like that you know it’s mostly gonna be looked at in comparison anyways (which it already is).
DJ-wise I don’t have many qualms with this game. The known songlist so far has a LOT of Armin Van Buuren tracks along with other artists like Arnej, M6, Vincent De Moor, John O’ Callaghan, and plenty others, and along with the songlist I have a feeling you can re-create his famous remixed blends/mash-ups. However, nothing has been said about any DLC (Which would be nice nudge-nudge wink-wink).
In Career mode you start off underground until a talent scout introduces you to larger clubs and venues and eventually leading up to a record label of your own and top notch contacts. You have to get enough money to buy better equipment like better headphones to make your beatmatching easier, all the way down to the decks and mixer… And yes depending on the mixer you get you can have more channels (EQ settings) to mess with and do your own stuff, or maybe even add more decks for even more different ways to blend or transition.
But of course it’s not just the music that gets the club pumping. Sometimes you have to move your arms around to get the crowd pumped for the crescendo you’re building, so using the wii motion controls you do just that, but of course the higher you get in your career the more demanding everything will become.
All in all, I can’t wait for this game. Many people will say otherwise, but with the way music is headed now it won’t be long before you hear some of these songs when you go out, so it’s at least worth a check when it’s released.
Still… A part of my brain just has to say… Armin… Why didn’t you just let them use more of your music in the Beatmania series? I'm tired of always playing "The Sound of Goodbye (Tribal Feel Mix)" just to get my dose of AvB in game.
The game is scheduled for release sometime this year (Amazon says June 26th), and you bet I’m going to do a review when it is. Regardless of how the game turns out he will still be #1.
